The brown-bellied sylvietta ( Sylvietta brachyura ) is a 9-centimeter representative from the order of the passerine birds , which is widespread in sub-Saharan Africa.
Appearance
The birds have a dark brown, in some subspecies also gray dorsal plumage. The belly is light brown to white in color. The beak is brown or black and the feet are brown. The tail is very short. The representatives that occur in Central Africa have a lighter colored underside of the abdomen than representatives that occur in East Africa. The body weight of the birds is between 5 and 20 grams.
distribution and habitat
This species is found in acacia forests and bushland in sub-Saharan Africa.
Way of life
The birds live together in pairs. When looking for insects, the birds climb around on the trunks of thorn trees. The birds are very territorial and do not tolerate the presence of other conspecifics in their territory.
Reproduction
The birds build small, spherical nests out of grass, which they hide in bushes. The female lays 2 to 7 eggs, which are incubated for up to 2 weeks. The nestling time of the young birds, which are cared for by both parent animals, is up to 15 days.
Danger
Since this species is widespread and no endangerment characteristics are known, the IUCN classifies this species as ( Least Concern ) not endangered.
