Break Machine was an American rap / hip-hop ensemble from the 1980s . It consisted of the musician and rapper Keith Rodgers, the front man of the group, as well as the producers Jacques Morali and Henri Belolo ; the team behind Village People .

Break Machine was embodied by the breakdancers Lindsay Blake, Lindell Blake and Cortez Jordan. They are named Break Machine under an early photo in the then specialist magazine Cashbox (March 10, 1984 issue) and are also listed as "Break Machine" on the record sleeves.

Lindell Blake now lives in Las Vegas and is a dancer, singer and choreographer. He was a dancer in Michael Jackson videos and doubled a stunt for Eddie Murphy. He has also worked on cruise lines and for television and theater.

Career

Rodgers was a musician and rapper who presented the radio rap show WHBI 105.9 in New York City . In 1981 he recorded a single called Searching Rap under the pen name "Bon Rock". This brought him into contact with Morali and Belolo, the French producers of the Village People group. After the disco genre died out, they were both looking for new styles and music genres. In 1983 they released the song Street Dance as a single with Fred Zarr , which became an international hit and one of the earliest hits from the hip-hop sector.

Street dance peaked at number 3 on the UK charts in March 1984 and was number 39 of the best-selling singles in the UK in 1984 . The song became a number one hit in France , Sweden and Norway . In Germany , the song was number 79 of the best-selling singles of 1984. In Italy , the song reached number 11. Street dance was most successful in Norway, where it was number one on the charts for five weeks. In France, the song sold over a million copies in 1984, peaking at number 1.

The following singles Break Dance Party and Are You Ready? reached number 9 and 27 in the UK charts. Their debut album Break Machine reached number 17 on the UK album charts. The ensemble disbanded at the end of the 1980s. Today Keith Rodgers is a musician under the pseudonym SugaBear.
