Henri Belolo

Henri Belolo (born November 27, 1936 in Casablanca , Morocco , † August 3, 2019 in Paris ) was a French music producer .

Live and act

Henri Belolo became known with the advent of disco music. With the help of his friend and composer Jacques Morali he was involved in the formation of the music groups Ritchie Family and the Village People , with the latter he won a Grammy Award in 1979 . He is also considered one of the people who introduced breakdancing to France with the group Break Machine and their acclaimed hit Street Dance (1984). He was also the founder of the Scorpio Music label in France - an independent label that has shaped house and club music from 1990 to the present day with numerous hits from the following artists: 2 Unlimited , Gala , Eiffel 65 , Haddaway , Jaydee , Black Legend , Moloko , Bellini , Bass Bumpers , Joan Jett , 20 Fingers , Ilona Mitrecey . He co-founded the Société civile des Producteurs de Phonogrammes en France (SPPF) , the civil society of record producers in France, which brings together more than 800 independent labels.

In contrast to his partner Jacques Morali, he was heterosexual , but saw the gay image of the village people as an opportunity to express a special party style.
