history

1998: foundation

The three friends Jeffrey Jey, Maurizio Lobina and Gabry Ponte met in 1992 at the Italian record label Bliss Corporation . After making music together there for several years, they first appeared as a group in the late 1990s . The name Eiffel was chosen by the routine of a computer program. The number 65 was mistakenly written on the cover of one of their demo tapes and was originally part of a phone number. The designer had then assumed that the band members would have added the digits later.

1999 to 2000: Blue (Da Ba Dee) and Europop

Eiffel 65's international breakthrough came with the song Blue (Da Ba Dee) with a characteristic vocal sound that was processed by automatic pitch correction . As early as 1998 the song was published in her home country and moved up to the top places there. In the summer of 1999, the title was released worldwide and developed into a number one hit in over 15 countries. In Germany occupied Blue (Da Ba Dee) from August 1999, nine weeks number 1 in the UK for three weeks. With some delay, the leading New York radio station Z100 included the song in their program and thus helped the band to break through in the USA . The single rose to number 6 on the Billboard charts. In the following years, the song was repeatedly nominated for a Grammy award. Additional attention was drawn to the official music video showing the band members being kidnapped by aliens. The characters Zorotl and Sayok6 were brought into being, who also appear in later music videos. To date, the video has garnered around 180 million views on YouTube.

In spring 1999, before Blue's international success (Da Ba Dee) , the song Too Much of Heaven was released in Italy . This was able to advance to number two in the Italian single charts and in 2000 also entered the charts in many other European countries. They made it into the top 10 in Greece, France and Romania. In contrast to its predecessor, influences from the hip-hop scene were recorded in Too Much of Heaven and processed with autotune. The song is said to be the first example of its kind. The music video shows the trio during their concert tour.

At the same time as the third single Move Your Body , Eiffel 65 released their first studio album Europop . Internationally, Move Your Body was the successor single to Blue (Da Ba Dee) , which developed into another Europe-wide success, with top placements in Austria, Denmark and France, among others. The official music video is a continuation of the music video by Blue (Da Ba Dee) . The studio album was able to advance to below the top of the US Billboard charts and also achieved success in various European charts. By his own admission they wanted with the album the music styles of different euro embody-European countries and pop play sodium form. As the last single they released the song My Console , which, however, could not follow the success of the predecessor.

2001 to 2004: Contact! and Eiffel 65

In 2001 they landed with the single Lucky (In My Life) from their second studio album Contact! another Europe-wide success. The song was published in different versions in different West to Central European countries. The fifth single, Losing You , sung by Elena Flochen, became a top 10 hit in Canada. The studio album itself was made during their bus tour through Los Angeles and was released in July 2001 and achieved high placements in Italy.

On April 8, 2003, the trio released the Italian-language album Eiffel 65 . From this a total of six singles were released by 2004. It all started with the song Cosa resterà (In a Song) , which moved up to number 12 on the Italian single charts. The successor Quelli che non hanno età made it into the top five after taking part in the Sanremo Festival in 2003 . The other releases achieved similar success. A year later this album was released as a double CD in Italy together with a newly produced English version and some remixes. However, it could no longer follow up on earlier successes internationally.

2005 to 2009: separation and new editions

At the beginning of March 2005 the DJ Gabry Ponte separated from the group because he was not present during the production of another album with the working title Crash Test and wanted to concentrate on his solo career. Jeffrey Jey and Maurizio Lobina announced that they would continue the Eiffel 65 project with the new album. However, they wanted to release this independently of the record company "Bliss Corporation", which would not have been possible due to the fact that the name Eiffel 65 belonged to the company. In June 2006 they announced that they wanted to release the album as the first release of the follow-up project Bloom 06 .

On October 13, 2006 Bloom 06 released the studio album Crash Test 01, which was still called Eiffel 65 . The included song In The City is based on the song Living In My City from the last, self-titled Eiffel 65 album. The second studio album Crash Test 02 was released in May 2008. Their EP Club Test 01 , released in November 2008, contained remixes of the studio album Crash Test 02 and a remake of the Eiffel 65 hit Blue (Da Ba Dee) .

In 2009 Gabry Ponte released the remix single Blue 2009 in collaboration with the Italian producer duo DJs from Mars . A year later the new edition of Move Your Body followed .

After "Bliss Corporation" announced in 2007 that the project would be re-established with a new line-up, they announced on June 16, 2010 that the Eiffel 65 would make a comeback with its old line-up. In addition to Jeffrey Jey and Maurizio Lobina, Gabry Ponte should also be part of the project again. A new studio album was announced in a 2011 interview and a 2012 Twitter message.

In 2012 they started the New Planet Tour as a trio , which consisted of concerts all over Europe and had a strong focus on visual effects. A mini tour of Australia followed in summer 2012.

On September 11th, 2015 Maurizio Lobina said during a concert in his hometown Turin: “ We stopped eleven years ago, discographically speaking. [...] We now officially announce that we are working on a new album. "

Since 2016: Panico

On April 2, 2016, a demo version of the single Panico from Eiffel 65's record company was uploaded to YouTube and the song was performed for the first time in front of an audience by the band in the Live Club in Trezzo sull'Adda on the same day . At the same time, Gabry Ponte announced his final exit from the project on Twitter, after he had not been present at various appearances in previous years. The final version of Panico , together with the English version Critical , was released on June 1, 2016.

In 2019 they started another tour through Australia.
