Blue (Da Ba Dee) is a Eurodance song by the Italian music group Eiffel 65 . It was written and produced by Jeffrey Jey , Maurizio Lobina and Massimo Gabutti in 1998. The song was released in spring / summer 1999, first as a single, and later on the debut album Europop . It is the group's most successful single release and was number one in the sales charts in over 15 countries, sometimes for several weeks.

Emergence

In October 1998 Maurizio Lobina played the melody on the piano in the studios of the Bliss Corporation , after which the owner of the label and producer Massimo Gabutti suggested developing a dance song from it. Jeffrey Jey contributed the lyrics. According to Jey, the color blue stands for a person's lifestyle, which includes all things important to them ( girlfriend, car, house ). The line of text "Da Ba Dee" was used because it can be understood across languages and countries.

success

Blue was sent to a few radio stations and DJs in 1999 and disappeared into oblivion. It wasn't until Blue got into the Italian radio rotation in April 1999 that the song became a bestseller. The song then dominated the charts for a few weeks, sometimes months, and rose to number one in over 15 countries. In Germany occupied Blue (Da Ba Dee) from August 1999, nine weeks number 1 in the UK for three weeks. With some delay, the leading New York radio station Z100 took the song into their program and thus helped the band to break through in the USA in 2000 . The single rose to number 6 on the Billboard charts.
