The Breakbones Plateau is a small plateau made of lava rocks on Candlemas Island in the archipelago of the South Sandwich Islands . It is just north of the Chimaera Flats . The plateau is characterized by numerous small fumaroles with adjacent vegetation.
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the plateau in 1971 after the brooding here giant petrels , which in English sometimes referred to as Break Bones ( English for Bonecrusher are) known.
