Brechte (family)

The Brechte family was a patrician family in Hamm . There were family ties to Wesel and Münster .

The coat of arms of the Brechte family contains a green thistle with five red flowers growing out of green lawn. A three-flowered green thistle adorns the helmet.

meaning

Numerous Hammer mayors and renters of Rentei Hamm emerged from the family . In addition, Gerhard Brechte worked temporarily as a treasurer. The family also contributed to the city's welfare through various foundations. Albert Brechte bequeathed a substantial sum of money to the Franciscan monastery in Hamm for the construction of the monastery church, so that the family is considered to be the second founder of the monastery. In 1543 the brothers Werner and Johann Brechte worked as contributors to the misery. In 1601, the couple Rötger Brechte and Anna, geb. In his will, Pfreund bought her house at Weststrasse 23, which is now the Café Extrablatt, for the construction of a poor house.

This compilation shows the connection between the Brechte u. a. to the Schurckmann family, who also provided the mayor of Hamm.

In addition, the brothers Werner and Johann Brechte from the first half of the 16th century should be mentioned. The former had a son, Johann Brechte.

There is also a connection between the rent master's family and judge Hermann Wilstake. His son Gobbel Wilstake was married to Christine Brechte.
