Rent Office
Rentamt , also Renterei or Rentei , is the term that stood since the late Middle Ages for the authority of the sovereign or ecclesiastical financial administration (mainly income from domains ) under the direction of a rentmaster or rent official . "Rentamt" later referred to an authority for the administration of the manorial income.
Rent office in Bavaria
In Bavaria , where the term was used for a particularly long time, the rent offices emerged as administrative authorities from the earlier caste offices that served the administration of the sovereign chamber property. The Vitztumsämter were in 1507 as part of a major administrative reform after the Landshut War of Succession converted (1504/05) in Rent offices that were responsible in Bavaria in addition to the tax authorities then legal, administrative and military tasks. For example, the rent offices were the intermediate authorities between the district courts of the lower level and the central authorities in the respective capital. In addition to Munich, these were the former residences of the part-ducal towers Straubing and Landshut as well as Burghausen . Amberg was later added with the acquisition of the Upper Palatinate territories in the Peace of Westphalia . In contrast, Ingolstadt became a state fortress and university town.
Minister Montgelas had the rent offices in Bavaria converted back into pure financial authorities in the course of his comprehensive administrative reforms in 1802, each of which was then headed by a rent official (later: rent official). After the First World War , the tax offices in the Kingdom of Bavaria became the tax offices as Reich authorities in the course of the introduction of the Reich Finance Administration in 1919 .
