List of mayors of Hamm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The city councils of the city of Hamm in North Rhine-Westphalia have had this list of personalities since 1263. The official titles changed over the years, as did the respective official powers. The city administration has been led by a full-time mayor since 1999.

Thomas Hunsteger-Petermann has been the first directly elected full-time mayor of the city of Hamm since October 1st, 1999 . The difference to all previous (part-time) mayors is that the full-time mayor is not only chairman of the city council or first citizen of the city, but also the head of the city administration. This function was held by the city director in Hamm until 1999 .

If the mayor cannot attend a representation appointment himself, one of the three elected mayors will take his place:

  • 1st Mayor: Ulrike Brille, CDU
  • 2nd mayor: Monika Simshäuser, SPD
  • 3rd Mayor: Ingo Müller, FDP

From the interim instruction to the end of Prussian rule (1719–1806 / 07)

From 1719 onwards, according to the interim instructions relevant to Hamm (November 1718), the mayors were appointed by the Prussian king. Even if only two mayors were provided for in these interim instructions, in practice - at least temporarily - the chamberlain was also designated as the (third) mayor. One of the mayors - called the mayor of justice towards the end of the 18th century - had a legal education.
