Günter Rinsche (born July 13, 1930 in Hamm ; † July 3, 2019 there ) was a German economist and politician ( CDU ).

Life

Günter Rinsche studied economics and social sciences in Münster , Cologne and as a Fulbright scholarship holder in Colorado Springs (USA) after completing his Abitur at Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium Hamm from 1951 to 1956, which was delayed due to the war . He graduated in Cologne in 1956 with a degree in economics. From 1956 to 1958 he worked in his father's company. From 1958 to 1961 he was a research assistant at the Institute for SME Research in Cologne. In 1959 he was awarded a Dr. rer. pole. PhD. In 1961 he became head of the “Fundamental Issues of Medium-Sized Enterprises” group in the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of Economics, Medium-Sized Enterprises and Transport . In 1964/65 he worked at the State Office for Research in Düsseldorf.

As a student, Rinsche was a member of the Junge Union and the CDU and from 1956 to 1979 a member of the City Council of Hamm. From 1956 to 1959 he was first district spokesman of the Junge Union Hamm and from 1981 to 1992 district chairman of the CDU Hamm. Since 1991 he has been honorary chairman of the Hammer CDU.

From 1964 to 1979, Rinsche was Lord Mayor of Hamm and thus the youngest Lord Mayor in Germany. From 1978 to 1979 he was President of the North Rhine-Westphalia City Council.

In the 5th and 6th electoral terms of the German Bundestag he was a directly elected member of the Lüdinghausen constituency (1965–1972). He was vice-chairman of the Committee on Economic Cooperation and Development .

In the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia he was a member of the CDU state list from 1975 to 1980. From 1979 to 1999 Rinsche was a member of the European Parliament . From 1989 to 1999 Rinsche was chairman of the CDU / CSU group and member of the board of the EPP group in the European Parliament.

Since 1968 he has been a member of the board of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and, in succession to Bernhard Vogel, chairman from 1995 to 2001.

Rinsche died on the evening of July 3, 2019 in a great old people's home.
