Brenda Dean, Baroness Dean of Thornton-le-Fylde

Brenda Dean, Baroness Dean of Thornton-le-Fylde , PC ( April 29, 1943 - March 13, 2018 ) was a British trade unionist and politician .

Life

Dean became involved in the union SOGAT (Society of Graphical and Allied Trades) from 1959 , of which she was president from 1983 to 1985 and which she then headed as general secretary until 1991.

In 1992 she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and was promoted to the status of a Life Peer the following year . Since then she has officially carried the title of Baroness Dean of Thornton-le-Fylde, of Eccles in the County of Greater Manchester and sat for the Labor Party in the British House of Lords .

In 1998 she was appointed Privy Counselor .
