The Brent Cross (also known as Brent X ) was the first mall of its kind in the UK . It is located in the London Borough of Barnet and is named after the Brent , a tributary of the Thames .

history

Opened in 1976, Brent Cross was the first major mall in the UK in its day. One wanted to test the acceptance by the population. It was designed in the shape of an I. Later extensions, which began in 1995, eventually gave it the shape of a T. Although it is small compared to more modern shopping centers, there are always interested parties.

But since it was built in a metropolitan area , it cannot be expanded. However, since the beginning of 2005 efforts have been made to demolish the adjoining office buildings in order to expand the Brent Cross. On January 1, 2002, smoking was banned in the building.

Transport links

The closest London Underground station is the Brent Cross tube station , which was only called Brent before the opening of Brent Cross. The Northern Line runs this route. From there it's about 10 minutes to Brent Cross. However, it is the same route from Hendon Central station .

However, the way from the stations to the shopping center is made difficult by some highways that cross the area. Despite their names, the underground stations are also not in the London Borough of Brent .

In addition to the underground stations, the center also has its own bus stop, which is open 24 hours and served by 13 routes. The routes lead to North London and the West End .

Trivia

When some scenes for the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies were shot again, the parking lot there served as a backdrop. Warning signs were put up to warn buyers of the sounds of guns and explosions.
