Brian Jacques (born June 15, 1939 in Liverpool , England ; † February 5, 2011 ibid) was a British writer who was best known for his Redwall series.

Life

He grew up in Liverpool in the north of England, where he lived until his death. He wrote Redwall , the beginning of a great saga that he would have liked to read as a boy, for the children of a school for the blind. He also wrote the two books The Stranded and The Pirates' Gold .

The Redwall saga includes 21 books with different main characters. Nine of the books are available in German.

His own biography is not that dissimilar to the stories he wrote. When he was fifteen he quit school and went to sea as a sailor. His travels took him to distant port cities, to New York, San Francisco and Yokohama. After his return he worked as a dock worker, truck driver, boxer, police officer and animator.
