Bridgette McCarthy

Bridgette McCarthy is a former British judoka who was third in the 1980 World Championship.

Athletic career

Bridgette McCarthy fought in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 52 kilograms. At the European Championships in 1979 in Kerkrade, she defeated the French Pascale Doger in the preliminary round and lost to the Austrian Edith Hrovat . In the semifinals, she lost to the Dutch Hennie Matteman and received a bronze medal. The following year she reached the final at the European Championships in Udine in 1980 and won silver behind the Italian Patricia Montaguti . At the first World Championships in women's judo in New York in 1980 , Edith Hrovat won the half-lightweight division in front of the Japanese Kaori Yamaguchi , followed by Bridgette McCarthy and Pascale Doger who won the bronze medals.

Bridgette McCarthy was British lightweight champion in 1980 and lightweight in 1981.
