Briggs is an impact crater on the northwestern front of the moon in the plane of Oceanus Procellarum , south of Lichtenberg crater and east of Russell . The crater has an extensive fracture system inside .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the English mathematician Henry Briggs .
