Lichtenberg is an impact crater on the northwestern front of the moon . It lies north of the Briggs crater in the plain of Oceanus Procellarum . It shows a small ray system running in north and west direction . The rim of the crater is hardly eroded with concentric slides inside.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German physicist and writer Georg Christoph Lichtenberg .
