Brigitte Sinhuber-Harenberg (born August 8, 1944 in Vienna ) is an Austrian publisher.

Life

Brigitte Sinhuber-Harenberg studied theater studies, art history, philosophy and psychology with a doctorate in philosophy. After a brief position as assistant director at ORF and dramaturge at the Landgraf Tourneetheater, she has been with the Langen Müller Herbig publishing group since 1970, initially in the press department, then as head of the press and marketing department and as program manager. In 1980 she took over the publishing management of the group, which also merged with Ullstein Verlag for ten years .

In addition to her publishing activities, Brigitte Sinhuber-Harenberg and her husband, the publisher Bodo Harenberg , who was Austrian honorary consul for North Rhine-Westphalia from 1999 to 2007, organized numerous events in Dortmund with Austrian personalities, including the Austrian national holiday with the participation of Austrian artists such as other Christiane Hörbiger , Robert Mayer , Otto Schenk and Otto von Habsburg .

For twenty years, one focus of her work was looking after the new works by Ephraim Kishon after the death of Friedrich Torberg . Because of his kuk roots and this tradition of humor, Kishon wanted Austrian support for his bestsellers, which were especially valued by his Austrian readers. From Munich, Brigitte Sinhuber-Harenberg was already responsible for the program and the activities of the Amalthea Verlag , which she managed independently from 2005 to 2014 on her return to Vienna and which she has since expanded its program considerably. From 2015 to the end of 2017 she worked for the publisher as a publishing advisor.

Brigitte Sinhuber-Harenberg has been on the board of the Main Association of the Austrian Book Trade since 2005 and a co-opted member of the main board since 2012. She is the editor of numerous literary anthologies as well as the memoirs of important artists.

Awards

On May 24, 2013 Brigitte Sinhuber-Harenberg was awarded the professional title of Professor by Federal Minister Claudia Schmied for special services to Austrian art, literature and contemporary history in her function as director of the Amalthea Verlag .
