Peer Briken

Peer Briken (* 1969 ) is a German sexologist. He is director of the Institute for Sexual Research and Forensic Psychiatry at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf .

Professional background

Briken studied medicine in Hamburg and 1998 on sexual homicides doctorate . After training as a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy as well as sexual medicine and forensic training , he qualified as a professor at the University of Hamburg in 2006 in the subject "Psychiatry and Psychotherapy" with a clinical sexology topic. In 2010 he became professor for sex research and forensic psychiatry and director of the institute of the same name at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf. He turned down a call to the professorship for forensic psychiatry at the Charité in 2016. Research focuses on the diagnosis and therapy of sexual disorders and sexual violence. He also works as a court expert. From 2010 to September 2016 he was 1st Chairman of the German Society for Sexual Research (DGfS) and from 2012 to September 2016 Vice President of the International Association for the Treatment of Sexual Offenders (IATSO). He is co-editor of the journal for sex research, the journal Personality Disorders: Theory and Therapy, and the online journal Sex Offender Treatment. Since January 2016, Briken has been  a member of the  independent commission for dealing with child sexual abuse alongside  Sabine Andresen  (chairwoman),  Christine Bergmann , Barbara Kavemann,  Heiner Keupp and  Brigitte Tilmann .
