Heiner Keupp (born June 16, 1943 in Kulmbach ) is a German social psychologist and professor emeritus at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

Life

Keupp grew up as the son of the village pastor Heinrich Keupp in Thierstein , Upper Franconia .

Keupp studied psychology and sociology in Frankfurt , Erlangen and Munich. Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer were among his teachers in Frankfurt . Keupp received his doctorate in Munich in 1971 with a thesis on the sociogenesis of mental disorders and in 1976 he received his habilitation. In 1978 he became professor for social and community psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich.

Act

In research, Keupp initially dealt with the conditions and possibilities of the psychiatric reform . He then worked on two special research areas at the University of Munich from 1989 to 2009 on questions of individual and collective identity formation. As a pioneer in community psychology, he gave impetus to the psychiatry reform in Germany.

A key area of ​​interest for Keupp is the influence of social change processes on the individual. In this context, his concept of “patchwork identity” became known . Another focus is the change in the world of work and the consequences of the stress caused by subjectification , delimitation and flexibilization of work .

Keupp has been retired since 2008. He continues to teach at the universities of Bozen, Innsbruck, Krems and Klagenfurt. For several years he has been offering courses in the field of further training to become clinical and health psychologists in Austria. Keupp is committed to research and practical promotion of civic engagement . From 2012 to 2017 he was Chairman of the Advisory Board for Civic Engagement of the City of Munich.

Heiner Keupp was chairman of the reporting commission for the German Federal Government 's 13th report on children and young people , which was introduced to the Bundestag in 2010 . Keupp was also Chairman of the Munich Institute for Practical Research (IPP), which published a scientific study on cases of abuse in Ettal Abbey on March 7, 2013 , and a further investigation into similar cases of abuse in Kremsmünster Abbey on March 27, 2015 . In 2018 he and the IPP completed a study on sexual violence in the Odenwald School.

Heiner Keupp - together with Sabine Andresen (Chair), Christine Bergmann , Brigitte Tilmann , Peer Briken and Barbara Kavemann - has been a member of the Independent Commission for the Study of Child Sexual Abuse since January 2016 .
