The Brimstone Peak (English for sulfur tip ) is a distinctive and 120 m high mountain in the northeast of King George Iceland in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises from the rocky headland between Venus Bay and Emerald Cove .
The name North Foreland , which the British sealer captain George Powell (1794-1824) used on a map from 1822 for the mountain, has now been established for the neighboring headland North Foreland . The mountain was given its current descriptive name by participants in the British Discovery Investigations in 1937 because of the yellow color of its rock.
