description
The structure is on the edge of a cemetery in the center of Largs. It dates from 1634 and was originally built for the Kelso family . In 1695 it became the family mausoleum of the Brisbane family . The masonry of the elongated, free-standing building consists of finely hewn stone blocks. The eaves run along eaves . A heraldic plate above the closed portal on the east side shows the year of construction. It also shows the initials "PS" and "IS" from members of the Shaw family. The monograms “PS”, “IM” and “IS” are recorded on a decorated plaque on the opposite side. Various marble panels with cornices on the outer walls date from the 19th century. The steep gable roof is covered with large slates. The gable surfaces protrude beyond the roof and have a higher angle of inclination. This could be the result of a renovation in the late 17th century.
