The Britannia Music Hall , also Campbell's Music Salon , Hubner's Animatograph , Tron Cinema and Britannia Panopticon , is a variety theater and cinema building in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1977 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

On the basis of an existing warehouse, the building was converted into the variety theater Campbell's Music Salon in 1857 according to a design by Gildard & Macfarlane . Just two years later, the facility was renamed Britannia Music Hall and then renamed Hubner's Animatograph in 1887 . As a result of renovations between 1906 and 1910, the theater was converted into a cinema and continued as the Panopticon . Between 1922 and 1938 it operated as the Tron Cinema and eventually closed.

In 1906 Stan Laurel made his professional debut there.

The classicist building is located on Trongate, southeast of Glasgow city center. The north-facing main facade of the four-story building is nine axes wide. The facades of the shops with shop windows on the ground floor are more recent. The arched windows with keystones on the first floor are surrounded by rusticated masonry. The flanking pilasters are designed in different levels of detail on the individual floors. On the third floor, the windows are grouped according to scheme 5–4–6. Friezes and cornices divide the facade horizontally. The final roof is covered with slate.
