The National Archives
The National Archives (TNA) is a UK agency that maintains the National Archives for England , Wales and the United Kingdom. Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own national archives, the National Records of Scotland and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland .
The National Archives were founded in 2003 through the merger of the Public Record Office and the Historical Manuscripts Commission . They claim to have the largest archival collection in the world and hold documents from over a thousand years of British history, including the original manuscript of the Domesday Book from 1086.
The head office is in Kew (London) . In addition, the National Archives manage the Family Records Center in Islington .
