Brittenia fraxinicola is a mosquito withinthe gall mosquito family (Cecidomyiidae).

features

The mosquitoes have a body length of 1.0 to 1.5 millimeters. Its second tarsal link is four times longer than the first, the empodium is well developed. The females have collar-shaped sensillae on the links of their antennae and have two heavily sclerotized spermatheces .

Way of life and distribution

The animals are widespread in Europe. The adults swarm in large numbers in early July. The females can reproduce with pedogenesis . The larvae develop from fungal mycelia in dead wood.
