Broch of Culswick

The Culswick Broch is an unexcavated coastal broch west of Culswick on the southwest side of the Shetland island of Mainland in Scotland .

The Broch stands on a rock platform and is about 3.5 meters high at the highest point. Debris from the outer wall has fallen in the middle. The Broch has a solid triangular fall stone ( English triangular lintel ) - as in Dun Dornaigil in Sutherland and when Caisteal Grugaig - over the partially filled with debris access. The broch has an outside diameter of around 16.0 meters. A "guard cell" ( English guard-cell ) was right in the aisle.

Drawings by Low in 1774 and Skene in 1805 indicate that the structure was intact up to these points in time, with three intramural galleries. The remainder of an upper gallery can be seen inside above the entrance, and an opening to a gallery is visible on the inside wall.
