The bronze cross

The bronze cross was donated on June 11, 1940 by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands for all soldiers of the Dutch armed forces who distinguished themselves through courageous and decisive action in times of war.

In exceptional cases, it can also be awarded to civilians and foreigners.

The decoration is a bronze Teutonic cross with the crowned initial W (Wilhelmina) in the middle, which is surrounded by a laurel wreath . On the back of the arms of the cross, the inscription Trouw aan Koningin en Vaderland (Loyalty to Queen and Fatherland). The year 1940 is surrounded by an oak and laurel wreath .

The award is worn on an orange ribbon with a blue central stripe on the left chest.

A corresponding bronze Arabic number is attached to the ribbon for repeated awards.
