action

The German-born scientist Dr. In his private clinic, Gabriel Schreklich is feverishly researching a self-developed serum that can resurrect the dead. After the unexpected accidental death of his little daughter Christ and his wife, whom he affectionately calls "Schatzi", Schreklich intensifies his efforts to perfect the remedy. In the course of his research, he finally succeeds in waking the two accident victims with his not yet fully developed drug - with unexpected side effects. The living dead develop cannibalistic traits and turn into so-called zombies with an almost insatiable greed for human flesh . The loyal doctor and family man reluctantly supplies his undead "experiments", which are kept under lock and key, with food. Dozens of creatures will soon be living in the basement of the facility. He develops into a tragic figure in the course of the plot.

One day, the doctor unwillingly admitted a seriously injured woman to his private facility, accompanied by her two parents. Despite immediate help and a blood transfusion , the young Latino patient succumbs to her injuries. Unfortunately, the woman's blood donating father also dies. With the presence of mind, the scientist first injects the deceased with the serum. His nephew Peter, who is unaware of the machinations of his relatives, and Schreklichs brawny assistant Günther can witness than the totgeglaubte test person back to life. Unobserved by the hospital staff, the woman who has mutated into a zombie later attacks her own mother and kills her. Meanwhile, Dr. Terribly together with the moronic Günther, the father of the woman who was brought in, who also turned into a bloodthirsty beast at different times. The researcher then informs his nephew about his research work and the macabre conditions of the institute. Peter is shocked; the assistant doctor lives in a room in the hospital with his heavily pregnant wife Anais, whom, on the advice of his uncle, he supplies with strange vitamin preparations in pill form .

When Anais accidentally discovers the trapped woman Schreklich and daughter in the basement of the spacious building and frees them, she gradually discovers the terrible secret of the facility. It inevitably triggers a horror scenario and the situation escalates after the deaths of Günther and Dr. Horrible. Hosts of the undead roam the infirmaries. The dead turn into meat-hungry monsters, while Peter carelessly becomes infected by Christ. His transformation is imminent. However, with the help of a dark-skinned nurse and various doses of antibiotics , Anais succeeds in preventing the mutation. When Peter nevertheless kills the nurse who is helping, Anais tearfully appeals to Peter's sanity and asks for his help. Peter then attacked self-doubt and despite visible changes he fights the zombie crowds from now on. After exhausting combat, it detonates a previously released gas with suicidal intent. The entire area is devastated.

Heavily pregnant Anais survived the detonation with secret notes and some samples of the experiments when, at the end of the film, she learned from a doctor that her unborn child was probably dead. From the accompanying notes she finally deduces that she has been dead for a long time and that she was only able to stop the symptoms of physical decline by taking daily medication. With stoic calm, she injects herself a gift of the serum in the presence of Christ, who has also been saved, to save herself and her baby.
