Ecumenical campaign

The motto «Nobody goes hungry because we eat too much. But because we think too little. " on a poster from 1969 marked the beginning of the ecumenical campaign by Fastenopfer and the Foundation. The aim of the campaign, which takes place every year in the pre-Easter Lent, is to sensitize the people in the north to the problems and concerns in the south, to set learning processes in motion, to open up global connections and to show possibilities for action for a fairer world.

Mottos were among others:

  • 2019: Together for strong women - together for a just world
  • 2018: Become part of the change
  • 2017: money won, land melted away
  • 2016: where gold loses its shine
  • 2015: Less for us. Enough for everyone.
  • 2014: Today's seed is tomorrow's bread.
  • 2013: Without land, no bread.
  • 2012: More equality means less hunger.
  • 2011: Natural resources and human rights.
  • 2010: stop unfair trading.
  • 2009: Because the right to food needs a good climate.
  • 2008: So that the right to food does not remain a pious wish.
  • 2007: We believe. Work has to be decent.
  • 2006: We believe. Human rights require commitment.

history

The origins of the foundation go back to a fundraising campaign carried out in 1961 under the name of Bread for Brothers , which was repeated from 1965 to 1966 and 1969 to 1970. The donations went to the aid organization of the Evangelical Churches in Switzerland and the Evangelical Mission Society (today mission 21 ).

In 1970, Bread for Brothers, together with the Swissaid and Fastenopfer aid organizations, founded a development policy working group , which Helvetas joined in 1971 and Caritas Switzerland in 1992 and the Swiss Protestant Churches' aid organization in 2003 . Since 2005 this working group has been called Alliance Sud .

Beat Dietschy was central secretary from 2007 to 2015. Bernard DuPasquier has been managing director since 2015.
