Bread has been marked with a bread stamp for around 1500 years. At that time, bread stamps were used to identify the owner, as bread was baked in communal bakeries.
Functions
The stamps differ in material ( wood , plastic, metal and clay ), shape and size and serve / s different functions:
- Consecration mark: For example, the Christian symbol " IHS " is still stamped today
- Ownership identification: For example, the baker's initials or the respective logo can be stamped
- Weight marking: This makes it possible to read the weight of the bread at a glance.
