Brunnwald (Bohemian Forest)

The Brunnwald is a forest area near Bad Leonfelden in the Mühlviertel of Upper Austria .

Location and landscape

The forest is located in the southern Bohemian Forest foothills about 25 kilometers north of Linz at the northern foot of the Kobernaußerwald . It extends about 7 kilometers in an east-west direction and 3 kilometers north-south between Bad Leonfelden in the east, Vorderweißbach in the north and Großtraberg (municipalities of Oberneukirchen and Helfenberg ) in the west. To a large extent, it lies entirely within the municipality of Vorderweissenbacher and Bad Leonfeldner.

It has its highest elevation with 841  m above sea level. A. east of the village of Brunnwald , which extends in the middle of the forest. The Höchlwald connects to the northwest .

Großtraberg wind energy priority zone

In 2011, the Upper Austria wind power master plan identified the Großtraberg priority zone , which encompasses an area of ​​around 4 km in the middle of the forest around the town of Brunnwald. According to the assessment by the wind energy working group of the state government, an expansion of wind energy appears economically, ecologically and in terms of landscape protection justifiable.
