Bruno Durand
Bruno Durand (born May 28, 1890 in Aix-en-Provence , † November 8, 1975 in Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde ) was a French librarian, Provençalist , Romanist and poet of Provençal and French.
life and work
Durand obtained a law degree in Aix-en-Provence in 1912 and attended the École nationale des chartes from 1913 to 1917 . He was then archivist in Toulon from 1921 to 1934 (during this time he still acquired his license ès lettres in Aix) and from 1936 to 1958 head of the Bibliothèque Méjanes in Aix-en-Provence. During the German occupation he was mayor of Saint-Marc-Jaumegarde . He left a private library of 20,000 volumes.
Durand became Majoral (Academician) des Félibrige in 1937 and a member of the Académie d 'Aix-en-Provence in 1944.
The city of Aix-en-Provence has a street that the Académie d'Aix named an award after him.
Durand was the grandson of the heraldist Louis de Bresc (1834-1911) and the great-nephew of the historian and poet Léon de Berluc-Pérussis (1835-1902), both of whom were already involved in Provençalism.
