The Brunt Basin is a glacial eroded basin of the Brunt Ice Shelf and parts of the Stancomb-Wills Glacier on the coast of the East Antarctic Coatsland .
The naming based on that of the ice shelf of the same name was made at the suggestion of Heinrich Hinze from the Alfred Wegener Institute and has been confirmed by the Advisory Committee for Undersea Features (ACUF) since July 1997 . Indirect namesake is the Welsh meteorologist David Brunt (1886-1965).
