Bubliki

Bubliki

Bubliki ( Ukrainian , Russian бублики , singular: the Bublik) are soft rings made of lightly sweetened white bread dough , which are mainly known in Russia and the Ukraine , but also in the Baltic States (in Lithuanian they are called riestainis ).

Their characteristic shape is probably explained by the fact that they can be easily carried on a pole or string. In the 19th century Moscow and St. Petersburg street vendors with Bubliki cords hung around their heads contributed greatly to the spread of this pastry.
