The book club buchclub 65 , also book club five and sixty , the GDR was founded on January 1st, 1965. In the vocational schools and in the extended high schools , members (subscribers) were aggressively recruited. This enabled the sales volume to be secured from the outset, especially for the new literature of socialist realism . The recognition value of books from Book Club 65 is the design of the book spine . The logo with BUCHCLUB 65 was always placed in the lower part.

Buchclub 65 ceased operations in September 1990 as part of the currency, economic and social reform of July 1, 1990 and the subsequent unification of Germany. In these more than 25 years it was published for subscribers in the series “Book of the Month” and “Book of Youth” (published from 1960 to 1964 by the Neues Leben publishing house for the book club of the Free German Youth ), later combined as “monthly volumes”, 1180 titles and 25 volumes of the readers' magazine “Buchclub 65”.

The book club 65 worked as an independent publisher based in Berlin. As a joint project, he edited the titles of the publishers

The books appeared under the publishing licenses and license numbers of the participating publishers. The book club 65 had, however, filed a separate ISBN-Verlag number (3-7464-), the order numbers of books were in the system of order numbers series of participating publishers.
