Buchholz (Ziesendorf)
Buchholz is a district of the municipality of Ziesendorf south of Rostock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).
Buchholz was first mentioned in a document in the middle of the 14th century. Around 300 people currently live in the village, mainly in the new “Küstersumpf” residential area. The place is south of Rostock directly on the Schwaaner Landstrasse. Places in the vicinity are Niendorf, Ziesendorf, Wahrstorf, Huckstorf and Benitz .
Agriculture hardly plays a role in Buchholz; there are also no industrial plants in the village. Only the riding stables are of economic importance.
The author and former mayor of the community Ziesendorf, Klaus Frühauf , lived in Buchholz.
In the spring of 1946 a group of five youths was arrested by the NKVD in Buchholz and sentenced by a Soviet military tribunal. One 18-year-old was shot and the others were given 10 years in a labor camp. In 1993 the whole group was rehabilitated by the Russian Public Prosecutor's Office.
church
There is a neo-Gothic church in the village . It was built between 1876 and 1878 and is the church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Buchholz. In addition to Buchholz, the parish also includes Benitz , Brookhusen, Buchholz-Heide, Fahrenholz, Groß Bölkow, Huckstorf , Nienhusen, Pölchow , Wahrstorf and Ziesendorf.
Until the beginning of the last century the church was restored several times. At the time of National Socialism and the GDR , since the church as an institution was not funded by the state, hardly any funds were made available for the maintenance of the church. Therefore, the condition of the building at the time of the political change was worrying. The roof was leaking, which had damaged the interior; Large areas of the joints in the masonry had been broken off and the roof, stalls and altar were damaged by the penetrating water.
The formation of a support association enabled important renovations to be carried out, and funds were made available to illuminate the church in the evenings.
