The BuckauQuartier is a listed former workshop building in Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt .

It is located on the south side of Coquistraße at the address Coquistraße 16 in the Magdeburg district of Buckau . To the east is the also listed residential building at Coquistraße 17 .

Architecture and history

The building was built as a locomotive workshop of the Royal Prussian Railway Main Workshop in Buckau between 1900 and 1905 as a replacement for an older locomotive workshop. Other information indicates that it was built around 1915 and was used as a tram depot. Previously, this location had a car hall and the switch repair workshop.

It was built as a two-aisled plastered hall. There are two large flat gables facing Coquistraße, which runs north . The facade is structured using bricks. A porch on the street has arched windows and oculi . In addition, it is structured by pilaster strips . Inside, a row of central columns was inserted as a riveted framework construction. There are polygonal trapezoidal gable roof trusses .

A number of 100 locomotives is specified as the capacity for the locomotive workshop. After 1945, parts of the building were used as a Buckau sports hall , and partly also commercially or as a warehouse.

A conversion to residential use is planned from the end of 2019. A gutting and only the preservation of the facades is planned. Residential complexes are to be created in completely newly built five-storey crossbars, each interrupted by a total of five inner courtyards that open upwards. The southern facade, which was built by a later extension, is to be exposed again. A total of 144 apartments with one to four room apartments between 44 and 144 m² are to be created, most of which are to be provided with terraces or balconies. An underground car park with 126 parking spaces is also planned below the building. Completion is scheduled for 2021.

In the local register of monuments , the workshop building is listed as a monument under registration number 094 71136 .
