The Budapest Wolves are a Hungarian American football club from the capital Budapest , the team was founded in 2004.

history

Since there were no competitors in their own country in 2004, the Hungarian club asked to participate in the Austrian Football League and received permission from the American Football Association Austria in the founding year to be a guest team in the Division II championship, the third level after the AFL and Division I to participate. In 2005, the Wolves were only defeated by the second team of the Tyrolean Raiders in the Challenge Bowl game (6:24) and thus secured the right to promotion to the second division in their second championship year.

The home games are played in the "Wolves Stadion Nepliget" and are regularly attended by around 2,000 to 4,000 spectators. In 2005, Hungary's MAFL (Magyarországi Amerikai Futballcsapatok Ligája) was the first to have its own championship, with the Wolves only taking part in the games for the 1st Hungarian Bowl in autumn and remaining victorious against the Debrecen Gladiators . The team has been playing in MAFL Division I since 2008, the second team playing in the 2nd division. At the same time, the Wolves play in the Central European Football League . In 2015 you could win the Austrian Iron Bowl and thus rose to the Austrian Football Division One . After the team finished last in 2017, relegation to Division 2 was imminent. The club decided to get out of the Austrian league completely.
