The Buendía reservoir ( Presa de Buendía in Spanish ) dams the Guadiela River, which flows into the Tagus River about 10 km further south, about 8 km northwest of the town of Buendía in the center of the Alcarria landscape on the border between the provinces of Guadalajara and Cuenca in the autonomous region of Castile -La Mancha in central Spain . About 20 km to the north is the Entrepreñas Dam , which dams the Tagus River.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 79 m above the foundation level . The top of the wall lies at a height of approx. 640 m ; their length is 315 m.
The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief .
Reservoir
When the reservoir is fully blocked , the reservoir (Embalse de Buendía) extends over an area of around 82 km² and holds around 1,700 million m³ of water. It has a maximum length of approx. 20 km in north-south direction with a maximum width of a good 2 km.
