The Buffalo Grove High School ( BGHS ) is a public high school that are in Buffalo Grove , a northwest suburb of Chicago located. It is one of six four-year general education high schools in Township High School District 214 . It includes parts of the Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, and Wheeling parishes .

history

Buffalo Grove opened in 1973. She took over students and staff from Wheeling and John Hersey high schools .

Clarence M. "Chick" Miller, the former assistant principal of Wheeling High School, has been named the first principal of the new school.

On March 12, 1976 visited President Gerald Ford in the campaign against the former governor of California , Ronald Reagan , the school and delivered a speech in the gymnasium of the Buffalo Grove High School.

Since 1990 there has been a school partnership between the Kundmanngasse high school in Vienna and the Marching Band of the Buffalo Grove High School with mutual student exchange. The partnership was initiated on the side of Buffalo Grove High School by Ed Jacobi, a former conductor of the marching band, who has retired since 2016 .

In 2003, new classrooms, a foyer, and new offices were built as part of a $ 6 million renovation. The “circle drive” on the west side of the school was redimensioned to make space for new classrooms and a foyer. In the new classrooms, the new science laboratories and classrooms have been set up for special lessons. Additional classrooms have been set up for foreign language lessons in the former storage rooms on the second floor on the south side of the school

On August 27, 2004, the "Bisons" hosted their first Friday Night football game in the new Bison Stadium. The team made it to the finals of the Mid-Suburban League , which made it possible to switch games from Saturday afternoon to Friday evening.

In the 2013-14 school year, a new swimming pool was built for $ 11 million.

Buffalo Grove High School won the Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence in the 1999/2000 school year, presented by the United States Department of Education .

In 2008, the average ACT score (level of education) was 23.3 and 95.5% of the graduating class of 2008 graduated from school on schedule. BGHS failed to adhere to the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), especially the No Child Left Behind Act, based on results under the plan of the Prairie State Achievement Examination and ACT in two groups of students.

Buffalo Grove supports 47 school groups and activities. These include the areas of sport, culture, languages, music, social work, politics and school politics. Buffalo Grove has an excellent speech and debate team that made it into the National Forensics League in the 1999 Lincoln Douglas Debate.
