Alcinda António de Abreu (born October 13, 1953 in Nova Sofala, Búzi District , Sofala Province , Portuguese East Africa ) is a Mozambican politician ( FRELIMO ). She headed the Department for Foreign Affairs (2005–2008) and the Department for Coordination of Environmental Affairs (2008–2014) under President Armando Guebuza .

Life

education

Alcinda António de Abreu was born on October 13, 1953 in the small fishing village of Nova-Sofala in central Mozambique. She completed her school education and university preparation until 1974 at the Liceu Pêro de Anaia in Beira .

Abreu then studied development studies at the Universidade Eduardo Mondlane in Maputo until 1982 . In 1990 she graduated from the Maputo Pedagogical University in Psychology and Education . She received further training certificates in political science and gender studies from the University College of London and in 1996 in development management from Witwatersrand University .

Political career

After completing her training, she was appointed to his cabinet by Joaquim Chissano in 1994, and from 1994 to 1997 she was in charge of the social affairs department. After that, she was raised by her party, the FRELIMO , the National Electoral Commission appointed and was for the organization of local elections in 1998 and the parliamentary and presidential elections in 1999 responsible.

In 2002 the FRELIMO congress elected them to the party's 15-member Central Committee (Portuguese Comissão Política ).

Armando Guebuza also appointed Abreu to his cabinet. From 2005 to 2008 she headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mozambique. In a cabinet reshuffle on March 10, 2008, she was given the much smaller Ministry for the Coordination of Environmental Affairs, which she headed until 2015.

Private

Abreu is a widow and has two children. Her husband, Maradali Mamadhusen , died with Samora Machel in an airplane accident between South Africa and Mozambique (see also the crash of a Mozambican Tupolev Tu-134 1986 ).

Abreu speaks Portuguese, Ndau , English, French.
