There were once around 25 branches in Germany. In July 2014, the Swabian Kids Fashion Group and private investors took over the insolvent Hamburg toy company Bärenmacher GmbH and Bärenmacher Holding AG. At the time, it was said that around 200 of the more than 260 jobs could be saved. Bärenmacher was part of the worldwide US franchise chain "Build-A-Bear". The annual turnover at that time was around 9 million euros. The online shop has been closed since November 2019. In February 2020, according to the German website, there was only one branch.
