Bukiringi is a village in the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It is located in the Ituri Province in the northeast of the country. Bukiringi is about 24 kilometers from Boga and is the destination of many refugees.

Bukiringi has been the target of many displaced people since 2008. In 2010 the number of refugees increased significantly. Of the 20,000 people who lived in the town in June 2011, around 11,000 were refugees. Around 2,500 lived in the refugee camp and the rest were taken privately with local families. The supply situation was extremely tense at the time.

history

Bukiringi was affected by the 1999 Ituri conflict between the Hema and Lendu ethnic groups . In January 2011 fighting took place in Bukiringi. The situation was very uncertain throughout the spring. In June 2011, a contingent of the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) was next to the refugee camp. There have been many reports of illegal taxation, forced labor, sexual assault and looting by the soldiers stationed there. From February to March 2012, Bukiringi was the headquarters of the Ituri Patriotic Resistance Front (FRPI). At the time there was heavy fighting in the region.
