The Bulmer Cavern is New Zealand's longest cave system , running 71.86 kilometers through the Mount Owen region in the northwest of the South Island . The cave system is the third deepest cave in New Zealand at 755 meters.
In the limestone and marble mountain ranges northwest of Nelson , the Takaka Hill , Mount Arthur and Mount Owen mountains are the deepest and three longest cave systems in New Zealand.
The cave was discovered in 1985. The first expedition to the higher sections took place in the same year.
