from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bulmudo ( Kor. 불무도, often written Bool Moo Do ), also Seonmudo ( Kor. 선무도, often Sunmudo or Sonmudo ) is a rare, almost unknown temple martial art from Korea that was used by Seon (Chan / Zen) Buddhist monks in the Golgulsa temple and some other temple complexes. Bulmudo is referred to as a direct descendant of the Shàolín Quánfǎ from China . Bul stands for Buddha , Mu for military and Do for way .

history

Bulmudo is said to have come to Korea as early as the time of the Three Kingdoms ( 372 AD). Today the monks are free to participate in the daily trainings. Each training session lasts three hours and starts at eight in the morning. There are no graduations, training takes place in monk clothing. After the warm-up, breathing and meditation exercises follow. After that, basic techniques and fighting are practiced. The techniques are similar to the praying mantis system and crane style. The system does not contain any weapons.
