Association of theater communities

The Bund der Theatergemeinden e. V. is an umbrella organization or "the amalgamation of all 23 theater communities in Germany". Since July 2017 the TheaterGemeinde Hamburg has been the federal theater community that provides business.

history

The association was founded in 1951 in Frankfurt and is a successor to predecessor organizations such as the Bühnenvolksbund , which go back to around 1900. The first federal office was in Augsburg, later it moved to Bonn and then to Cologne. Today, it is mainly the large theater communities that take over the management of the business, and since July 2017 the TheaterGemeinde Hamburg .

Club goals

The federal government sees itself as a link between the individual theater communities and supports its members u. a. through advanced training. The federal government and the theater communities aim to promote cultural diversity in Germany and make theater accessible to all social, educational and age groups. The chairman of the board is Gerhard Bendt.

Theater talks

Since 1952 the federal government has been holding a conference with one of the theater communities under the title Theater Talks , at which cultural, political and artistic issues are the focus. Detailed documentation was published on each of the theater talks.

Playwright Prize

From 1986 to 1998 the association announced a playwright's prize with the declared aim of “promoting and honoring modern drama”, which was endowed with 25,000 DM and was linked to a performance guarantee for the winning play. The winners and their pieces were:

As stated in the brackets, young theater communities are listed for several cities at the same time, which want to introduce children and young people to theater and culture. Why and since when the Austrian theater community is also listed here as the 24th theater community cannot be found on the website of the Federation of Theater Communities.
