The Federal Office Building Josef-Holaubek Square (formerly Federal Office Building Liechtenwerder Place ) is a complex of buildings in the 9th Viennese district of Alsergrund on Josef-Holaubek Square. It is home to offices of the Vienna State Police Department and the Federal Criminal Police Office .

history

The building was created as part of the superstructure over the tracks of the Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof . Between 1980 and 1983 the basic structure for the Federal Office Building (BAG) was created. The foundation stone was actually laid in 1986, the construction time was given as about three years, the costs should be around 1.2 billion schillings (approx. 87 million euros). In a report from the Court of Auditors from 1994, violent criticism of the adult construction costs and the construction of the BAG was expressed. A general renovation of the Rossau barracks at that time would have been an alternative to the construction . A pedestrian bridge between the immediately adjacent Althanstrasse University Center and the BAG has been closed for decades.

Departments

The headquarters of the Federal Criminal Police Office and numerous offices of the LPD Vienna are housed in the building complex itself.

Surname

Josef Holaubek was police chief of Vienna for 25 years . In recognition of his work, part of Liechtenwerder Platz was renamed Josef-Holaubek-Platz in 2000 . For this reason, the building was renamed accordingly.
