Cinema program award

The cinema program award of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media is an annual award for cinemas with a culturally outstanding annual film program in Germany. The forerunner of the cinema program award was the Federal Film Program Award , which has been awarded by the Federal Ministry of the Interior since 1970 . Further cinema program awards are given in Germany by the regional film funding agencies.

In addition to prizes for the general annual film program, the cinema program prizes from the Minister of State for Culture include special prizes for children's and youth film programs as well as prizes for a good documentary and short film program.

The funds for the cinema program award have been 1.8 million euros since 2018. With this, the federal government would like to "contribute to [...] that the culturally rich film and cinema landscape in Germany is preserved". In 2017, 214 cinemas were awarded prizes between 2,500 and 20,000 euros.
