Please note the note on the applicable legal version.

The law on the participation of the federal government in the composition of committees , also the Federal Committees Act , official abbreviation BGremBG , was newly enacted on April 24, 2015. Its aim is equal representation of women and men in committees, insofar as the federal government can appoint members for them ( Section 1 BGremBG).

It replaces the law on the appointment and posting of women and men in bodies within the federal sphere of influence of June 24, 1994, which aimed to improve the equal participation of women and men in bodies within the sphere of influence of the federal government .

Content of the law

The law regulates the filling of boards of directors, advisory boards, commissions, committees, administrative and supervisory boards, collegial bodies and comparable groups ( Section 3 BGremBG) that are appointed by the federal government or in which the federal government may fill individual positions. The principle of double naming applies here, which means that seats should be occupied equally by a woman and a man ( Section 4 (1) BGremBG).

The federal government must submit a report on this to the German Bundestag in each legislative period .
