Chamber of Engineers
An engineering chamber is a professional association of engineers , which is usually organized in the legal form of a corporation under public law . The Chamber of Engineers offers advice on legal issues and professional independence , offers further training and places engineers and experts . As a rule, the admission requirement is a university degree as an engineer; there are usually no other conditions.
The chambers of engineers in Germany and Austria, as self-governing organizations of mostly freelance engineers such as consulting engineers and engineers authorized to submit building documents, have the following tasks:
- Regulation of professional code and ethics
- Promotion of cooperation between different engineering disciplines
- Participation in laws and regulations that affect the engineering profession
- Advising politics, municipalities and other institutions on current technical decisions and future aspects
- Questions of training and further education in free occupation; Information and specialist conferences
- Contact with technical universities and participation in the preparation of study regulations
- Questions of approval and quality control
- Arbitration of any disputes
- Participation in the creation and monitoring of the fee schedule
- Advice and support for members on technical and legal issues, insurance, environmental protection, etc.
- Advice on becoming self-employed
The details of their duties vary from chamber to chamber. While some chambers are a general chamber of engineers for engineers of all disciplines , other chambers are limited to civil engineers . There are also common chambers for engineers and architects .
Most chambers of engineers distinguish between two groups of members: compulsory members for whom membership in the chamber is compulsory due to their professional title as "consulting engineer" or due to other legal regulations such as mandatory membership for engineers in the Saarland with building submission rights , and voluntary members who are not are legally required to be a member.
Federal Chamber of Engineers
The Federal Chamber of Engineers represents the common interests of its members, the regional chambers of engineers at the federal and European level, and formulates the views of the profession, especially consulting engineers, vis-à-vis the general public. The Federal Chamber of Engineers advocates uniform job descriptions and regulations for professional practice for engineers in Germany and the European Union. In addition, it supports the regional chambers of engineers in fulfilling their statutory tasks and promotes cooperation and the exchange of experience between the member chambers. The Federal Chamber of Engineers is led by a seven-member board. According to the election of the Board of Directors on April 15, 2016, the President of the Federal Chamber of Engineers is currently (March 2019) Hans-Ullrich Kammeyer. The seat of the Federal Chamber of Engineers is Berlin.
Since December 5, 2007, the Federal Chamber of Engineers has awarded the distinction to be a Historic Landmark of Civil Engineering in Germany . This is awarded for outstanding works in civil engineering in the Federal Republic of Germany and sponsored and financially supported by the Federal Government.
