The law introducing a smoking ban in federal institutions and public transport ( Federal Non- Smoking Protection Act , BNichtrSchG for short ) is a German law that fundamentally prohibits smoking in federal institutions and on public transport . It was enacted as part of the Coat Act to protect against the dangers of passive smoking .

The Federal Non-Smoking Protection Act came into force on September 1, 2007. The law contains a general ban on smoking in all federal institutions and the constitutional organs of the federal government, in public transport and in public railroad stations in completely enclosed areas. A violation of the prohibition is acc. § 5 an administrative offense .
